About Alex Aitken
Every corner of Northfield is a chapter in my life. I've worked in our supermarkets, in our call centres and on our building sites - and I've put my Labour values into action as a Councillor in Kings Norton.
Now, I'm ready to unseat Northfield's Tory MP and be a strong, local voice, representing our community in Westminster.

From Northfield
Every corner of Northfield is a chapter of my life. From my schools in Rednal, my dad’s house and my college in Kings Norton, my first job in Rubery, the cricket pitch I played on in Weoley, renting my first flat in West Heath, and my first Labour Party meeting in Frankley.
I’m Northfield through and through. I’ve worked in our supermarkets, in our call centres and on building sites to help build the city that made me.
I’m proud of where I’m from, and I’m proud that the last Labour Government lifted my family and families like mine across Northfield out of poverty by introducing tax credits and the minimum wage.
But right now, we have a Tory MP who would rather support Boris Johnson than the interests of local people in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis. It’s not right. And it doesn’t have to be this way.
We need a dedicated local Labour MP who is unapologetically on our side.
That’s why I’m running to fight and win the next General Election, alongside our community and my fellow Labour Party Members, so we can give other local children the opportunities that Labour gave to so many children like me. Because we know Northfield deserves better.

For Northfield
Northfield was once an industrial heartland. We were known to the world for our skills and ingenuity. But the collapse of MG Rover tore our community apart and put my family members out of work. Northfield’s Labour MP championed MG Rover workers and the local community throughout but the Tory cuts which followed and a decade of austerity still hit our area hard. For too many, it has become a place of low-pay and insecure work.
Northfield once again deserves an MP with the pride I have in our area, and my determination to make it a better place to live - to make it a green industrial heartland, attracting skilled jobs that will empower working people and give Northfield families the security they deserve, whilst tackling the climate crisis.
Northfield needs an MP who puts our community first and who has a track record of supporting the people who live here. When our Tory MP voted against free school meals, I founded a local foodbank and when the Tory Government cut social care, I led a winning campaign to save a Day Centre for disabled members of our community alongside local residents.
Northfield wants an MP who is on our side. I’ll work alongside a Labour Government to fix the Conservative cost-of-living crisis, bring down NHS waiting times, confront and tackle inequality, and once again invest in education to unlock the aspirations of our children and young people.
The stakes are high for our community. We have one shot to win. And when Labour wins, the people of Northfield win too.
So join our team of local people and let’s win again in Northfield, for Northfield.
